Ramp Lighting Replacement

At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, this project replaced 736 high pressure sodium ramp lights, located on the roof of Concourses T, A, B, C D and E, with new energy efficient LED lighting. This change not only improved ramp lighting conditions and safety for ramp operations but provided significant savings in both energy consumption and maintenance. The reduced wattage of the LED lights resulted in almost 2,000,000 kWh savings across the project. The LED lighting also has a life expectancy of just over 20 years in comparison to the existing HPS lamps which need to be changed every few years.

This lighting replacement was part of a larger contract with the City of Atlanta that consisted of 13 different maintenance related scopes of work and 20 different contracts with various vendors, contractors and design firms. CPS managed logistics, budget, schedules and coordination on all scopes of works. The major challenge in this scope of work was daily coordination with airlines and ramp control towers to provide open gates to facilitate the lighting replacement, and CPS successfully executed this coordination resulting in no lost time to the contractor and no impacts to airline operations.
