Interdisciplinary Science, Technology, Education and Mathematics Building
Interdisciplinary Science, Technology, Education and Mathematics Building
The Interdisciplinary STEM (iSTEM)—Interdisciplinary Science, Technology, Education, and Mathematics—Building at Kennesaw State University is a 67,000-square-foot, $60 million academic and research facility delivered using the CMAR method. Strategically located to enhance campus connectivity and the arrival experience, the building supports KSU’s growing STEM programs and long-term campus master plan.
The facility includes advanced wet and dry laboratories, chemistry and biology teaching labs, cybersecurity research spaces, technology-enabled classrooms, faculty offices, and collaborative student areas. Specialized high-bay laboratories feature a 4-foot-thick strong wall and floor system, overhead crane, hydraulic power unit, and large foldaway glass doors to support hands-on engineering instruction and applied research. A state-of-the-art cleanroom, designed to meet ISO 6 and ISO 7 standards, supports high-precision research with integrated specialty gas distribution, abatement systems, and gas scrubbers.
CPS provided comprehensive program management services, working closely with the Board of Regents, KSU leadership, faculty, facilities management, IT, and research departments to align programmatic needs with design intent. CPS led extensive coordination efforts to gather input from multiple academic disciplines resulting in flexible yet customized learning and research environments.
The iSTEM Building delivers a modern, highly adaptable environment that elevates teaching, research, and student engagement across multiple scientific disciplines. Its flexible spaces allow programs to evolve with changing technology and academic priorities while still feeling tailored to faculty and student needs. As a new landmark on campus, the facility enhances the arrival experience, improves campus circulation, and strengthens KSU’s identity as a leader in STEM education. The project supports recruitment, retention, and interdisciplinary collaboration making it a strong reference point for future similar projects.
